RASA: Deepening Arts Education

Our RASA enrichment series provides Indian arts students with opportunities to deepen and broaden their artistic horizons through masterclasses, workshops, and lecture-demonstrations by leading artists.


RASA events are typically free of cost to Silambam students and faculty, who also have first access to reserve spots at these events. For others, a nominal fee applies, and admission is based on availability.


UPcoming RASA Events

Kalaimamani Smt. Priya Murle has been in the field of Bharatanatyam for over 4 decades. A disciple of the legend Prof. Sudharani Raghupathy, she a is multifaceted artist, educator, and choreographer. An MPhil in philosophy with research in the Rasa theory, she has performed the world over and received several awards, including the Tamil Nadu State Award, Kalaimamani. She is the Artistic Director of Shri Silambam Academy of Fine Arts. Her Parivartan Research Initiative provides annual short grants for research scholars. She is actively involved in outreach programmes that make classical dance accessible to all. She is currently the President of Abhai.

This masterclass/workshop series is open to Advanced-level students. Specific days/times TBD.

Acharya Choodamani Shri A Lakshman is a renowned Bharatanatyam performer and educator. A disciple of Kalaimamani Smt. K. J. Sarasa, he has performed in all the prestigious Sabhas of Chennai and at numerous dance festivals in India and overseas. His commitment to imparting the subtle nuances of the art form has endeared him to his students worldwide. He has received many prestigious awards including Acharya Choodamani from Sri Krishna Gana sabha, He is the Founder director of Nrithyalakshana, a Centre for Bharathanatyam. His sishyas have a deep sense of respect and passion for the art form due to their Guru’s rigorous training program aimed at moulding them into purposeful individuals

This masterclass/workshop series is open to Intermediate and Advanced-level students. Specific days/times TBD.

Partha Bose is a widely-acclaimed sitar player from Kolkata. He received his training from Pandit Manoj Shankar of the Maihar Gharana. He has performed in many prestigious music festivals in India, including the Dover Lane Music Conference, and has performed regularly in North America and Europe at concerts and music festivals. He was selected by the Government of India to lead a cultural delegation to African countries during the 50th anniversary celebrations of India’s independence.
Esha Bandyopadhyay, an accomplished classical vocalist based in Kolkata, was initially trained by her mother, Maitreyi Bandopadhyay, and later by the well-known vocalist Krishna Dasgupta, a disciple of Tarapada Chakravarty and Amir Khan. She has performed in many music festivals in India, and has been performing regularly in Canada, the US, and Europe since 1999. She has founded an academy of music and art in Kolkata.

This lec-dem/concert is open to all levels of students and rasikas
